01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Climb the stairs of a commercial building in Kabukicho, and the heavy basslines of punk, metal, and hard rock immediately take over. Around the counter, music fans from Japan and abroad drink side by side, drawn in by the approachable bartenders and the room's unvarnished energy.

Jägermeister holds pride of place on the drinks list at BAR PSY. Pours range from single shots of 20 ml and 40 ml to refreshing mixed drinks like the Jäger Ginger, an energizing Jäger Energy, and sets of 2 Jäger Bombs. A bell hangs above the bar; ring it, and rounds of shots go out across the entire room, sparking one of the venue's defining late-night rituals.

For those settling in for a longer session, the selection reaches well beyond herbal liqueurs. Cold bottles of Heineken and Corona Extra sit alongside Kirin Heartland on tap, complemented by standard mixed drinks including gin and tonics, Moscow Mules, and a rock-leaning Jack and Coke. The bar also pours familiar Japanese pub staples—Nikaido barley shochu, Oolong and Jasmine tea highballs, a rooibos-infused Heaven Hai, and tart Otoko Ume sour—letting guests drink at whatever pace fits the night.

BAR PSY opens every night from 19:00 until 5:00 the following morning. Dropping by early offers time to request favourite tracks over a relaxed drink, while the later hours let visitors plunge straight into the blare of guitars and late-night barroom clamour.
